On Saturday 1 July, the Standard Bank Incubator was the home to the second Park Exchange Community dinner!
The beauty of these gatherings is that, one never really knows what to expect! The atmosphere is determined by the particular guests that arrive that evening. Being a Pretoria girl through and through, I was feeling nervous about hosting an all-Joburg crowd, but as soon as all the friendly faces settled in at the table with a glass of wine, all the nerves disappeared.
This specific dinner was only open to creatives and entrepreneurs in any field and the main objective of the evening was to provide a space for people to share their fears, their triumphs, their failures their hopes and to give one another advice. All the guests were open and honest about their personal and business stories and were more than willing to offer advice where possible. Near to the end of the evening, the conversation took on a socio-economic focus as we discussed the role (or lack thereof) of women in the work place. The women had room to express their frustrations, the men listened and asked questions and everyone again offered solutions as best as they could.
Essen eatery catered a wonderful community style 3 course menu. For the starters we enjoyed a Camembert and olive puree tart, followed by a Mexican styled Chilli con carne for the main, topped with fresh coriander, flat leaf parsley and yogurt dollops, served with butter flat breads; and we ended it off with a sticky chocolate and brittle pudding for dessert.
It was a night of enriching conversation and delicious food in one of the most versatile and beautiful spaces for creatives and entrepreneurs, in Johannesburg.
We would love to have you for dinner soon 😀
